Colours 1968

Meet my sweet mom, circa 1937 (well, I guess I should say meet part of my mom).

And meet Claudine Longet, circa 1942. The Colours album was cut circa 1968 - a fascinating era of free love and peace, psychedelics, NOW, civil rights, muscle cars, flower power, Woodstock, and all that groovy and interesting jazz. A pivotal era in American history.

Mom and Claudine…pretty close in age, but that's where the similarity ends.

Little did I know when I took this shot (mom and I were in a thrift shop) that the wild child Claudine did, in fact, lead a very colorful life. She was married to singer Andy Williams for awhile and had three kids. She was a singer, actress, and in 1976 she murdered her boyfriend Olympic skier "Spider" Sabich. She was acquitted of the murder and then quickly married her defense attorney (who, it should be noted, abandoned his family for her). What a gal!

Mom was even cooler, if you ask me. Not as colorful, thank goodness.

Thanks so much, Liz. Mom thought my request for this photograph was a bit odd, but sweetly cooperated.
